Meet the newest cats

Our newest cats, Ellie and Bronagh, are settling into the office at Hot Tin Roof! It’s high time you met them, so we set up an interview as a little introduction.

Ellie

Introduce yourself…

I study English Literature and Language at the University of Edinburgh. I’m originally from New Orleans, LA, but I’ve lived in Houston, TX, for most of my life, so I’m a long way from home.

Why did you want to try your hand at PR?

I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing, and PR involves them both. Also, I love how you get to learn new things every day!

What’s been the most surprising thing you’ve learnt since starting at Hot Tin Roof?

It’s one thing to know that PR is heavily involved in media, but it’s another to distribute a press release and then see it in the paper the next day. That experience was so exciting!

Tea or coffee?

Trick question – I drink hot chocolate.

Top Edinburgh tip?

There’s this little bookshop right near Grassmarket called Armchair Books, and it’s incredible. It’s filled to the brim with books and has really old editions that are fun to flip through.

If you could be a fictional character, who would you be?

I’d like to be Nancy Drew because she’s a smart, young woman who isn’t afraid of adventure and always gets to the bottom of a mystery. PR often requires a bit of detective work and research to get to the crux of a good story, so she has definitely inspired my curious mind!

If there was a breaking news headline about you, what would it say?

“Student smashes own chocolate muffin eating record in Black Medicine”

Bronagh

Introduce yourself…

I’m from Derry, Northern Ireland and am studying for a Master’s in English Literature here in Edinburgh. I present a show on the university student radio station which is all about storytelling, so perfect for PR!

Why did you want to try your hand at PR?

I love writing but wasn’t sure how to make a career out of it, so when I heard about PR I had to try it out.

What’s been the most surprising thing you’ve learnt since starting at Hot Tin Roof?

I never realised how niche industry-specific publications can be. Who knew there was a Potato Processing International?

Tea or coffee?

I love both, but a warm cup of tea to wrap my hands around is my go-to in the office.

Top Edinburgh tip?

I’ve only lived in Edinburgh a few months so I’m usually taking tips rather than handing them out, but the doughnuts at Brew Lab Coffee are amazing. I highly recommend!

If you could be a fictional character, who would you be?

I’d love to be Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote. The police officers she deals with often underestimate her, but she perseveres and always solves the case in the end.

If there was a breaking news headline about you, what would it say?

“Woman, busy as a bee, agrees to a quick four-hour brunch with a bestie.”

We hope you enjoyed getting to know the newest additions to the office!
