New ultra-rapid EV charging hub opens in Stirling’s Springkerse Industrial Estate

A new electric vehicle charging hub has opened at Borrowmeadow Road in Springkerse Industrial Estate, serving Stirling’s growing EV-driving community – from fleet operators and businesses to individual drivers and the wider public.

The ten-bay facility, developed by Source, features ultra-rapid 160kW chargers which allow most electric vehicles to ‘charge and go’ in around 15 minutes, based on industry accepted charging session data. Located just a few minutes east of Stirling city centre off Forthside Way, the hub’s strategic position serves the high concentration of commercial businesses in the area while remaining fully accessible to all EV drivers.

The charging hub offers contactless payment options and 24/7 customer support, with an emphasis on user-friendly design. The facility is powered by renewable energy, utilising infrastructure from SSE and technology from TotalEnergies to provide both environmental benefits and convenient charging.

Simon Pickett, Head of Data and Technology at Source, said: Our Stirling hub is strategically located to support the growing business community at Springkerse Industrial Estate – particularly fleet operators and commercial users who require reliable, fast charging – as well as individual EV drivers. As Stirling continues to show strong EV adoption rates, with electric vehicles already accounting for 10% of licensed vehicles in the area, we’re focused on providing the dependable infrastructure that everyone needs for their journeys and to support the transition to cleaner transport.”

The hub shares space with a Drive-Thru Starbucks, allowing drivers to grab refreshments while charging. Its location in the heart of Stirling’s industrial district makes it ideally suited for local businesses transitioning their fleets to electric vehicles, delivery services operating in the area, and mobile workers who need convenient charging between appointments.

Cllr Gerry McLaughlan, Convenor for Economic development at Stirling Council, said: “As more and more businesses move over to electric vehicles this is a great local initiative. Stirling has a fantastic location for business to grow and develop  because of its location. It is ideally placed with great road links to both the North of Scotland And the Central Belt. This new facility can only make Stirling more attractive to base business operations.”

Andrea McKenzie is Sustainable Transport Manager at home energy efficiency business Warmworks, which has a fleet of 45 vehicles. She said: “We recognise the confidence that charging hubs like these can build for both individuals and fleets in the transition to electric vehicles. Like many businesses across Scotland we are proud of our commitment to net zero, our fleet is currently around 80% electric and travels throughout the country, so we will no doubt make use of this facility, and applaud the sterling work it takes to get these in the ground.”

Source plans to deliver 300 new ultra-rapid hubs across the UK and Ireland over the next five years, with the Stirling site representing the company’s continued investment in Scottish EV infrastructure.
